College student Maura Murray disappeared on February 9, 2004 after a one car accident in New Hampshire. As her family continues to search for leads, one of her relatives gave Crimejunkies the latest on the case...
WAS THERE ANY CHANGE IN HER BEHAVIOR BEFORE SHE DISAPPEARED?
Helena Murray: Maura had been upset the Thursday before, but her dad spent time with her on Saturday night and she was not noticeably upset. She did, however, have an accident with her dad's car early Sunday morning and was upset about that.
SHE TOLD HER PROFESSORS AND BOSSES THAT
THERE WAS A DEATH IN THE FAMILY AND WOULD BE OUT OF TOWN FOR A FEW DAYS. DID ANYTHING HAPPEN IN HER LIFE THAT SHE WOULD WANT TIME ALONE?
Helena Murray: We don't know of anything specific except the car accident.
DO YOU KNOW WHERE SHE WAS DRIVING TO?
Helena Murray: No, neither her family nor her friends knew she was leaving and as far as anyone knows, she knew nobody in the area. Her family had spent a lot of time in Bartlett, NH which is quite a distance from where her car was found, and we know that she called a family (no one she knew) who had a rental property in Bartlett. She also called GOStowe and looked up directions to Burlington, VT.
WHY DID THE SEARCH FOR MAURA BEGIN 36 HOURS AFTER HER DISAPPEARANCE?
Helena Murray: You would have to ask this question to the police. It was their decision. There was some minimal searching done that night, but a dog was not brought in for about 36 hours.
WAS THERE ANY CRIME IN THE AREA WHERE SHE WENT MISSING?
Helena Murray: It is difficult to answer this. It is a rural area and there are certainly crimes, but there was no specific crime that we are aware of that might be related to Maura's disappearance.
HAVE THERE BEEN ANY SEARCHES IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS?
Helena Murray: Private Investigators did some searching this past fall. We were not informed of the search until after its completion. Nothing was found at that time to our knowledge.
ANY NEW TIPS?
Helena Murray: Sadly, we have not had any tips that lead anywhere in quite a while.
WHERE CAN SOMEONE CALL IF THEY HAVE INFORMATION?
Helena Murray: We no longer have a tip line available, but if you have information, please contact:
